Urs 'Grizzly' Pedraita is a Swiss endurance motorcycle rider who has begun a round-the-world record attempt from the USA, departing from Daytona Beach last week.
True to his name, Grizzly has been bear-like in his preparations to ride a Victory Cross Country around the world through all six continents in under 100 days to break the current record that stands at 120 days. He says his aim is to ride with a continuous speed with as few stops as possible, and he even plans to put the wheels on the ground in Antarctica.
Grizzly's ride will be solo (alone, no service crew following) with a distance of approximately 62,000 miles (100,000kms) in 100 days and he reckons it will make his record virtually unbreakable.
Over the past year, Grizzly has put himself through challenging acclimatisation rides in sub-zero temperatures on his Victory Cross Country. While this powerful bagger might be more used to cruising on paved highways, Grizzly shows that this kind of bike can be ridden everywhere – even on ice, snow, sand, mud and gravel.
Additional items on his Victory Cross Country include navigation systems, a 33-litre fuel tank, a customised seat with back support and two LED headlights added on the front for better vision during his long night rides.
This won't be Grizzly's first big ride on a Victory Cross Country. In 2013, he completed a 14,500km trip in just 37 days during winter.
Grizzly's ride and route progress can be viewed here. The 100-day mark puts the date as Friday, May 20 and he'll need to finish by then to achieve his goal.
Grizzly will arrive in Australia next month and will be following the below route:
05.04.16 Sydney, NSW to Tambo, QLD - 1370kms
06.04.16 Tambo, QLD to Avon Downs, NT - 1214kms
