There are four weeks to go until local and international off-road racing talent line-up at the start of the Australasian Safari, ready to take on seven days which will test the endurance of both competitor and machine.
From September 20 to 27, Safari competitors will be racing their four-wheel drives, motorbikes and quadbikes through 3200 kilometres of challenging terrain situated in Western Australia’s stunning mid-west region.
The first challenge for the 100 competitors will be tackling the sandy beach tracks bordering the beautiful turquoise coast of Jurien Bay. From there, the course will take them into the vicinities of Northampton, Kalbarri, Gascoyne Junction and Carnarvon and then to the finish line at Geraldton Foreshore.
The event has attracted another strong showing of international competitors from the USA, South Africa, Thailand, Czech Republic, United Kingdom, Romania and France.
Mirroring the diverse field of competitors will also be a wide variety of machines with three Dakar SXS vehicles, a sidecar, pro-trucks and retro pre-1985 bikes.
The Australasian Safari has been once again chosen to be one of five premier off-road events to host the Dakar Challenge. The eight Moto competitors who’ve nominated for the challenge will be vying against each other to win a free entry into Dakar 2014.
Australasian Safari opens with a Safari Show at Wanneroo Showgrounds on Thursday 19 September from 4.00pm until 9.00pm. Hosted by the City of Wanneroo, this free family event gives motorsport enthusiasts an opportunity to get up close to competitors and their vehicles before they head off into the outback.
