As the Bikesales Network first reported last month, Australia’s Troy Corser is still holding out hopes of fielding a one-rider team in the 2014 Superbike Championship EVO class, using BMW S 1000 RR power.
And to make it happen, the two-time world superbike champion has joined forces with his former Aussie crew chief, Tom Larsen.
"I have a five-year plan," Corser was quoted as saying by superbikeplanet. "With a budget of three million euros per season, you can have two riders and you can play the game when all the bikes will be the Evo."
The two-bike scenario has now reportedly been downgraded to just a single bike, where Corser and Larsen – with their intimate knowledge of the S 1000 RR -- should have no problems building a competitive bike from the outset, before a full tilt at the championship in 2015 when EVO rules are adopted across the board.
As with all start-up operations, sourcing sponsorship is the biggest issue, and that’s where team ‘Down Under’ is currently focusing its energies – while undoubtedly talking to prospective riders. Australian Mark Aitchison could be in the mix after an excellent finish to the season on the Pedercini Kawasaki.
We should be seeing a provisional entry list for the 2014 world superbike title in weeks.
Tickets are now on sale for the opening round of the 2014 world superbike title at Phillip Island from February 21-23.
