Troy Corser is following the path forged by so many of former road racing greats – team management.
The two-time world superbike champion (1996 and 2005) will be the sporting director at the new JR Racing BMW team for 2015, which has just announced Spaniard Toni Elias as one of its riders.
A second rider is expected to be announced soon – Leon Camier is apparently in the mix -- with both riders to campaign the updated S 1000 RR machine under the new and more standardised EVO rules, which apply across the board in 2015.
“I will be again in the WSBK paddock next year and I'm very happy to be joining the JR Racing Team and to be riding a BMW machine,” Elias said.“Right now I think 2015 will be the best season for me and I'm looking forward to some strong results with the team.
“It is a new squad entering the series, which is really good, the bike is very competitive and I'm happy to be working with a double world Champion and WSBK icon such as Troy Corser. I cannot wait to get started.”
JR Racing will be managed by Gemma Voces-Pons -- a former partner of Aussie racer Garry McCoy -- with the ‘JR’ part referring to team owner Yoselyn Robinson's tribute to her father Jose Robinson. Joselyn will fund the team as part of a larger plan to bring world superbikes to her native Dominican Republic.
Corser, who turns 43 on November 21, retired at the end of 2011 after a distinguished career that saw him claim 130 podiums in 377 races, for a total of 33 victories.
The 2015 world superbike title begins at Phillip Island from February 20-22. For more information, click here. Additional information from www.crash.net.
