Two-time AMA Supercross 450 champion Cooper Webb is headed Down Under to take on the Lawrence brothers in the AUS-X Open.
The Star Yamaha rider will line up in the SX1 class at the popular event when it returns to Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium on November 30.
Webb notched up four wins and a total of nine podiums in the 2024 AMA Supercross season but was beaten in the title race by Australia’s Jett Lawrence. He is now looking forward to racing Lawrence again in Australia.
“It would be awesome to win, especially with Jett and Hunter there,” he said. “Any time I beat them is great, but it would be cool to do it in their own country.
“When you go to Australia and race their top guys, it’s no joke. The Australian crowds are electric, and the vibe and the atmosphere will be incredible.”
Webb has race at the AUS-X Open previously, but not since winning the 2019 and 2021 AMA Supercross 450 championships.
Joining Webb and the Lawrence brothers will be another AMA fan favourite, and reigning Australian Supercross SX1 champion, Dean Wilson.
“The AUS-X Open’s 2024 rider line-up will absolutely feature the best talent Australian fans have ever had the chance to witness,” said director Kelly Bailey.
“The addition of Webb, who is one of the very few riders to beat Jett this year, is seeking payback for his narrow loss in the 2024 AMA championship. The rivalry is something every Australian motorsport fan wants to witness live.”
According to Bailey, demand for tickets has been unprecedented, with the event set to become “the biggest single day supercross event outside of the USA”. Organisers are hopeful of attracting over 40,000 people to the 50,000-seat stadium.
