Congestion tax for Melbourne?

City denies plans

The City of Melbourne and the Victorian state government have denied there are plans to introduce a London-style congestion tax in the city.

The idea has been under discussion for several years, however there is considerable resistance to the idea.

Nevertheless long-term motorcycle lobbyist Damien Codognotto says bike riders should be on the front foot with this issue, in case the mood changes and the tax comes in.

"If the tax comes in, motorcycles & scooters should be exempt because green transport should be encouraged," he says.

"If you want to express your opposition to Melbourne riders being charged a congestion tax, email these three people and let them know what you think ... politely.
