Triumph has kickstarted the show season in Europe with all guns a blazing, announcing four new models: evolutions of the Speed Triple, Speedmaster and America, and a totally fresh addition in the form of the Thunderbird Sport.
We’ve already touched on changes to Triumph’s cult bike, the Speed Triple, most recently as yesterday, so let's move on to the more relaxed part of the Triumph equation.
AMERICA AND SPEEDMASTER
The two middleweight cruisers have been given a comprehensive makeover, with updated styling and ergonomics, including a 690mm seat height.
The America’s styling has taken on a more classic theme for 2011, with the 16-inch front and 15-inch rear cast alloy wheels sporting high-walled tyres. The America also has a deep front mudguard, pulled back handlebars and forward controls for a traditional low and laid-back cruiser look.
Colours are metallic black or two-tone blue/white.
The Speedmaster now features a new 19-inch cast aluminium front wheel with single disc brake and ‘skinny’ tyre for the classic chopped hot rod look.
The 690mm seat height is married to new and wider handlebars, and the two colour options are classic black or red.
Both bikes are powered by a 270-degree 61hp version of Triumph’s 865cc parallel-twin. The America will go on sale next February alongside the Speed Triple, and the Speedmaster will be on dealer floors in January.
THUNDERBIRD STORM
The Thunderbird Storm is a stripped-down, 1700cc version of the Thunderbird cruiser. Featuring the 98hp, 104 cubic inch version of Triumph’s parallel-twin unit, the blacked-out power cruiser also features twin headlights.
The Thunderbird Storm will go on sale next March.
Price is still to be announced on all four models.
