Clearing the air on filtering

A petition has been established which calls upon state and federal governments to specifically define the differences between 'filtering' and 'lane splitting'

A petition has been raised calling on the two major levels of government in Australia – state and federal -- to define the “differences between safe ‘filtering’ between lanes of stationary or slow moving traffic, and ‘lane splitting’.

The petition, established on May 31, claims there is little empirical evidence to suggest that filtering, when conducted in a safe manner, is significantly dangerous and therefore categorised as illegal.

The main body of the petition reads as follows:

“We the undersigned, call upon state and federal governments along with their bureaucratic instrumentalities to initiate without delay the clarification of Road Rule 141 to specifically define the differences between safe 'filtering' between lanes of stationary or slow moving traffic, in a manner that alleviates congestion and 'lane splitting' in a manner that is dangerous.

Do you think the petition will gain some traction with authorities? And do you think filtering is safe? Have your say below.
