The inaugural Clare Valley Cruise will be held in South Australia on Sunday, October 30, with a clutch of regional roads closed to public traffic for one-way cruiser-only ride sessions.
The state heritage listed town of Mintaro will serve as the hub of the event, and the Lions Club of the Clare District will manage traffic flows as a fundraising basis to sustain community projects.
Stuart Paxton, a Lions Club member with 40 years' experience as a police officer, will be the traffic marshal for the Event.
“This inaugural closed-road event is a good chance to test the traffic management process," said Paxton. "This is the first time we will be closing two 10km stretches of road to form a 30km triangular circuit in conjunction with the Horrocks Highway that will remain open."
Road marshals will be stationed at each entry and exit checkpoint, however the ticketing is actually managed automatically with online purchasing coupled to license plate recognition cameras on the circuit. The LPR cameras are only for ticketing purposes, and there will not be vehicle speed monitoring on the closed roads during the event.
The event is not a race or time trial, and riders should maintain care at all times.
Participating motorcycles must be:
• Strictly cruisers;
• Be registered in an Australian state or territory; and
• Be insured for third party property.
Tickets for the morning session (10:30am-12:00pm) and afternoon session (1:30-3:00pm) are now on sale at $29.90 per session, with a 25 per cent discount to those who purchase an all-day pass. Tickets will be limited, so get in quick if you want to be a part of the inaugural event.
"We hope that the cruiser community helps us to develop a great event and the plan is to expand the circuit to over 80km of closed roads over the next three years," said Butler.
