Chinese-Italian deal bears fruit

One of the several deals between foreign and Chinese scooter manufacturers has finally borne fruit. Zongshen and Piaggio recently celebrated the start of production in China of the Shuni (Elegance) scooter.

It's powered by a 50cc four-stroke engine designed by Piaggio, which meets Euro 2 emission requirements. The Zongshen plant has an annual capacity for four million units, according to Piaggio.

This venture is 45 per cent owned by Piaggio and Zongshen, with the remaining 10 held by the Foshan municipal authority, where the plant is based. (Picture: Roberto Colaninno, CEO of Piaggio, shows off the new Shuni.)
