As a result of recent events, a newly appointed disciplinary panel and mandatory tyre pressure sensors are among the updates to MotoGP’s rule book for 2016. Following the clash between Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez during he 2015 round of the Malaysian MotoGP, disciplinary matters previously handled by Race Direction will be now be dealt with by specific panel. The change was agreed to by the manufacturers, Dorna and the FIM and has been implemented in a bid to reach faster and unbiased decisions. The panel will be led by Race Director Mike Webb and, in the event of him being removed from his normal duties to sit on the panel, a Deputy Race Director role has also been appointed. Meanwhile, a frightening high-speed crash suffered by Loris Baz during the recent tests in Sepang has led to the tyre-pressure sensors being mandated in the premier class. It is believed, though not confirmed, that the cause of Baz’s exploding rear tyre on the fast main straight was a result of the team running pressures lower than Michelin’s suggested minimum in a bid to gain more grip.
Data released by Alpinestars following the crash revealed he was thrown from the motorcycle at 290km/h and hit the ground with a force of 29.9g, with most of the brunt taken on his left shoulder.
