CFMoto has pulled the covers off its much-anticipated adventure bike, the CFMoto 800MT.
The model – or pair of models, one more road-focused and the other with more off-road ability – was officially revealed recently at the Shanghai Auto Show.
Powering the pair is KTM’s 799cc LC8 parallel-twin, previously found in the KTM 790 platform that was recently superseded by its 890 models.
CFMoto has collaborated with KTM since 2013 in a synergistic relationship that has been bearing fruit for both brands – KTM gains access to the massive Chinese market and an ability scale up both rapidly and cost effectively, while CFMoto gains added technical expertise from the Austrian-based firm.
Products from both brands are styled by Kiska Design, an Austrian design house that has styled KTM’s bikes over decades, and who now has an office in Shanghai.

The CFMoto 800MT is available in two guises – a road-focused model with cast-alloy rims and more conservative tyres, and a harder off-road-edged variant with wire-spoked wheels and more aggressive tyres.
Although information on the pair is still somewhat limited, bikesales has ascertained from CFMoto’s marketing material that the newcomers won’t skimp when it comes to features or technology.
The bikes are equipped with Bosch electronic fuel injection with a ride-by-wire throttle and a choice of ride modes, plus a bi-directional quickshifter, full LED lighting (with daytime running light and auxiliary driving lights), electronic cruise control, an immobiliser, heated handlebar grips and a heated seat.
Riding on manually adjustable KYB suspension, the braking package is provided by Spanish component supplier J.Juan and backed by Cornering ABS – a first for the Chinese market, says CFMoto – while the seat height is a relatively modest 825mm. Tank capacity is 19lt.
There’s a 12-volt socket located to the left of the 7.0-inch TFT colour multimedia screen, which features Bluetooth connectivity to allow the rider to pair the bike with a smartphone app for additional features like turn-by-turn navigation, among others.
The windscreen can by manually adjusted for height, and the bike will be available with a factory-supplied hard luggage comprising a topbox and panniers, along with protective engine crash bars.
The 799cc parallel-twin, meanwhile, is said to produce up to 95hp (70kW) at 9000rpm and 77Nm at 6500rpm, although the bikes’ weight hasn’t been announced.
While the local specification and pricing of the new CFMoto 800MT is yet to be announced, it seems the largest-capacity bike from this brand to head our way from China will also be the most technologically advanced.
It’s believed the CFMoto 800MT will go on sale in Australia in the second half of 2021 – we’ll bring you more information on these new adventure models as it comes to hand.
