CFMOTO 700CL-X Sport looming

The sporty variant of CFMOTO’s new full-power naked bike range will hit Aussie showrooms in early October

Following hot on the heels of the recently released CFMOTO 700CL-X Heritage neo retro, the new 2022 CFMOTO 700CL-X Sport is now looming large, with the Heritage’s sports-oriented naked bike sibling set to go on sale in Australia in early October for a competitive $10,490 ride away. That's $1000 more than the CFMOTO 700CL-X Heritage.

New model influx

The CFMOTO 700CL-X Sport is the second in the new three-bike 700CL-X line-up, with CFMOTO’s first full-power, non-LAMS range to be completed by the 700CL-X Adventure in the first quarter of 2022.

That model, with wire-spoked wheels and adventure-bike styling, is completely separate to the incoming CFMOTO 800MT Sport and Touring models that will go on sale here before the end of 2021.

While sharing the same tubular chromoly steel chassis and 693cc parallel-twin engine (itself a stroked version of the brand’s 650cc LAMS models), the CFMOTO 700CL-X Sport has several features that mark it apart from its two 700CL-X siblings. The changes span a twin-disc front brake setup with Brembo Stylema M4.30 radial-mount calipers backed by Continental ABS, petal brake discs and sticky Maxxis MT-ST2 tyres, as well as a solo seat (optional pillion seat available), clip-on handlebars, a small screen and round bar-end mirrors.

Shared power

The engine remains in the same format as that found in the preceding CFMOTO 700CL-X Heritage, with claimed maximum outputs of 73hp (55kW) at 8500rpm and 68Nm at 6500rpm, along with Bosch electronic fuel injection, a ride-by-wire throttle, and a choice of two ride modes (Eco and Sport).

Like the Heritage, the Sport is suspended by KYB units front and rear – an inverted 41mm fully adjustable fork and a monoshock adjustable for preload and rebound – with 150mm of travel at each end.

The seat height is a little lower than that of the CFMOTO 700CL-X Heritage, at 795mm (800mm for the Heritage), while the bike’s overall length is 110mm shorter. Wet weight is 205kg.

Other niceties include a slipper clutch, an LCD instrument display, LED lighting with daytime running light, electronic cruise control, a USB charging port, and a three-year, unlimited-kilometre factory warranty provided the bike is serviced within the CFMOTO dealer network.

Service intervals are pegged at 1000km for the initial service, then every 5000km thereafter.

Custom touch

The 2022 CFMOTO 700CL-X will be available in Nebula White or Velocity Grey colour schemes, and will launch with a range of genuine factory accessories including rearsets, a 10mm taller rider’s seat, a chain guard, radiator guard, and a range of CNC-machined aluminium alloy cosmetic components.

According to Michael Poynton, director of CFMOTO Australia, the Chinese brand is ramping up its offerings this year like never before.

“The breakout year for CFMOTO in the full-power motorcycle ranks continues with the unveiling of the 700CL-X Sport,” he said.

“The initial response to the 700CL-X Heritage has been exceptionally positive, and we’re confident the 700CL-X Sport will also appeal to a wide range of riders with its striking looks, top-spec chassis and sensational value-packed proposition.”
