CBR500R and CB500F now on sale

Honda's fresh assault on the middleweight road market is officially a goer, with both bikes now in the company's dealerships nationally. The CB500X will follow in June

The all-new CBR500R and CB500F parallel twins are now on sale nationally, for $6990 and $7290 respectively. There’s also an ABS version of the CBR500R for $7490, while the CB500F comes standard with ABS.

The third member of the new trio of 500s, the adventure-leaning CB500X, will reach Australia in June for $7490.

The triumvirate is all based on an identical platform – a 471cc, liquid-cooled parallel-twin with 34mm throttle bodies, mated to a steel tube frame, 41mm fork, nine-position preload adjustable shock and 17-inch wheels. The rubber is 120/70 (front) and 160/60 in size.

The brakes are a wave-type design, measuring 320mm at the front and 240mm at the rear. Fuel capacity is 15.52 litres, with a 2.65-litre reserve.

The sporty CBR500R will be available in three colour schemes -- Tri-Colour, Graphite Black or Victory Red, with ABS variants of each – and the naked CB500F available in Graphite Black or Victory Red.

Honda Australia Rider Training (HART) is offering free test rides on the CBR500R and CB500F on April 21 in Queensland and May 5 in New South Wales and Victoria. Visit: http://hart.honda.com.au for more information.

And the Bikesales Network will be riding the CBR500R and CB500F on April 15, so standby for a full launch report.
