We're not quite sure about the audacious claim that this year's Melbourne leg of the 2010 Australasian Supercross Championship (Super X) will be the biggest supercross ever held outside of the USA - the massive Tokyo and Bercy events would probably beg to differ - but there is no doubt it's going to be a cracker of an evening with confirmation of some big international names to take on local star Chad Reed.
In a major coup, the line-up for the October 23 under lights showpiece will include the American riders who finished second, third, and fifth in this year's AMA supercross title -- Kevin Windham (pictured), Davi Millsaps and Justin Brayton (USA) - as well as Mike Alessi, who is running second in the AMA motocross title behind Reed.
"The Monster Energy Super X has been a huge success since its inception in 2008 and what a way for us to finally take it to the masses of sporting fans in Melbourne," said the Managing Director of Super X promoter, Michael Porra.
"I know this will be the biggest supercross race ever held outside of America with the extraordinary rider line-up heading to Melbourne to compete under lights on a huge US-designed track at a venue to be announced shortly."
Potential venues in Melbourne include Etihad Stadium, Olympic Park or the new rectangular AAMI Park.
The event will also include some of the biggest riders in freestyle motocross, including Melbourne duo Blake Williams and the double back-flipping Cam Sinclair.
Super X will begin in Newcastle on October 16, before visiting Melbourne (October 23), Canberra (October 30), Auckland (November 13), Dunedin (November 20), Sydney (November 27) and Brisbane (December 4).
