Carruthers to attend Broadford Bike Bonanza
Rare return home for the legendAustralia's 1969 250 GP world champion Kel Carruthers will make a rare trip home from his American base to be the special guest at the Honda Broadford Bike Bonanza (HBBB) at the Victoria State Motorcycle Complex at Easter (April 11-12).
The 71-year-old, originally from Sydney, will take part in a parade of champions alongside Isle of Man TT winner Barry Smith and former GP riders Jack Woodley and Vic Soussan, as well as attending a gala dinner on the Saturday evening.
Kel, who also mentored American 500 GP world champions Kenny Roberts Snr and Eddie Lawson, will be accompanied on the trip to Australian by his wife, Jan. Their son, Paul, is a long-standing editor of American weekly magazine, Cycle News.
The HBBB is a non-competitive event with an emphasis on pre-1985 motorcycles. The complex's full array of circuits, owned and maintained by Motorcycling Victoria, will be open at different times on the weekend.
