Can-Am Spyder Roadster hits Homebush
The Rotax-engined three-wheeled will hit the new V8 Supercar street circuit
The Can-Am Spyder Roadster should turn a few heads this weekend when it's shown in front of some 150,000 motor racing fans at the Sydney Telstra 500 V8 Supercar race at Homebush.
Four of the three-wheeler vehicles will cruise around the Sydney Olympic Park street circuit, leading the driver motorcade past spectators "to promote and increase the awareness of the product" says BRP, the parent company of the Can-Am Spyder Roadster.
The unique design features two wheels at the front, and a single rear wheel at the rear to which power is transferred from a 998cc V-twin. The Can-Am Spyder Roadster develops 106hp and 108Nm of torque, has seating for two and tips the scales at around 316kg.
BRP, or Bombardier Recreational Products Inc., is also working on bringing the Can-Am Spyder Roadster 'Touring' model to Australia, which is scheduled to be launched in Australia within the next month or two. The Touring model of the three-wheeler Spyder can be considered the luxury model, if you will. It weighs more (421kg), costs more (starts at $32,000+) but is more comfortable with arm rests for pillion passengers and even the option of a trailer.
"This is a great opportunity to build on the growing momentum of the Spyder Roadster," says Rohan Slater, Can-Am Spyder Product Manager for Australia and New Zealand.
"Being such an innovative and unique product, this is an opportunity for people to see the Roadster in action," added Slater.
