Can-Am has revealed two new electric motorcycles, with the historic brand returning to the two-wheel world for the first time since 1987. The announcement was made at the 2023 Club BRP event.
Details on the new bikes are scarce, but the Can-Am Origin adventure bike will offer dual sport performance, while the Can-Am Pulse will be a street-focused machine. Both bikes will be powered by all-new Rotax E-POWER technology.
"Half a century ago, Can-Am roared to victory on the track and the trail, and today, a new legacy begins,” said BRP CEO, Jose Boisjoli. “With the Can-Am Origin and Can-Am Pulse, we are gearing up to reclaim our motorcycle heritage.”
BRP has stated that full specifications will be revealed in August 2023, coinciding with Can-Am’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
While Can-Am is currently best known for its four-wheel UTV and ATV products, it actually started life as a dirt bike company. BRP created the Can-Am brand in 1972 to produce high-performance enduro and motocross bikes.
The Can-Am bikes were very successful and secured wins in many major motocross and enduro championships, but BRP halted production in 1987 and the brand disappeared. Can-Am returned in 2006, providing an outlet for BRP’s four-wheel products. As well as UTVs and ATVs, Can-Am also offers the on-road Spyder and Ryker models.
BRP revealed a host of new models across all of its brands, but it electrification plan was front and centre with the company also revealing the Sea-Doo Rise electric hydrofoil board.
