It’s been an agonising wait of two years of pandemic cancellations, but the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix returns to Phillip Island over October 14 to 16 and, for those intent on camping at the track, there will be a few changes.
“The team have been working hard to ensure the process for booking camping is streamlined, with the new processes introduced for 2022 designed to reduce overcrowding, keep the cost of group bookings down and ensure the safety and security of all our campers,” says the Australian Grand Prix Corporation.
To be forewarned is to be forearmed, as they say, so these are the changes you need to know about…
• All campsites must be pre-booked – click here for more information, and to book a site in either the Highside North, Highside South, or Trackside Campgrounds. You will not be able to purchase a campsite on arrival at the Phillip Island GP circuit.
• For 2022, all campsites will be sold per site, with an additional per person fee for each camper (not applicable for pre-pitched tents).
• Each camper will be sent a wristband prior to the event. No access to campgrounds will be granted without a wristband.
• All campsites are either pre-selected or allocated – there is no need for people to line up for days in advance to secure a site in 2022. Campers will be given the option to pre-select their specific campsite.
• Campers are reminded to take note of site sizes, as campers will not be able to utilise any space outside of their purchased site.
A four-day pass (arriving Thursday, October 13, departing Monday, October 17) is priced from $250 in the Highside North Campground, from $270 in the Highside South Campground, and from $250 in the Trackside Campground. Standard, Powered and Premium sites may be available, depending on the specific campground.
Pre-pitched tents are available in the Highside North Campground from $350 for a single, $640 for a twin, $780 for a triple, and $880 for a quad, with those prices covering the site, tent, and campers (additional per-person fees not applicable).
In the Trackside Campground, pre-pitched tents are going from $375 for a single, $655 for a twin, $840 for a triple, and $960 for a quad.
The Highside North Campground caters to motorcycles, cars, caravans, campervans, buses, and motorhomes, with each campsite being 8m x 8m in size. The Highside South Campground has even bigger sites – it’s designed for larger vehicles such as caravans and RVs with each site measuring 13.8m x 7m. The Trackside Campground is reserved for patrons with motorcycles and tents only, with each campsite measuring 6m x 6m in size.
Please note that a campground booking does not grant access to the track – a valid entry ticket for the event itself is also required. Race day entry costs $90 per adult for a general admission ticket, $65 for concessions, and $180 for a family, while a three-day pass costs $165 (adult), $90 (concession), or $330 (family).
