Australian FMX rider Cam Sinclair is gearing up for his long awaited return to competition beginning tonight in Mexico City at the first round of the Red Bull X Fighters.
The six round series is recognised as the premier Freestyle Motocross competition and the last time Cam Sinclair competed in the event was in Madrid, Spain, back in July of 2009. As the pioneer of the double backflip, he attempted the move for the 27th time but was critically injured.
After recovery from serious brain injuries, his return to the sport this weekend will be closely watched by all and sundry, to see how the FMX legend fares.
"I have watched the crash in Madrid many times but still have no memory of what happened, so it doesn't scare me. I'm just so excited to be competing in Mexico City. The X Fighters attracts all the very best riders in the world of FMX; for me to be back out there riding my bike and doing what I love is fantastic!" Sinclair enthused.
Sinclair recently performed before an AFL game at the hallowed MCG in Melbourne, in front of a 50,000 strong crowd.
However Cam Sinclair is not putting pressure on himself to perform his trademark double backflip or push his bike and his body to extremes, instead taking a cautious approach for the first round of the Red Bull X Fighters. However some pundits have suggested this is a ploy to lull his foes into a false sense of security...
"For this first event I don't really have too many expectations. With everything that has happened in the past year, I just feel so privileged to be able to compete at all," explained Sinclair.
"[But] I've been working really hard and will give it everything I've got and just see what happens," said the Aussie FMX rider.
