Call to arms for MA charity rodeos

Motorcycling the way it used to be – riders getting together for some rally and gymkhana-style games – to generate money for the victims of the recent floods

Motorcycling Australia (MA) is still appealing for riders to sign up for three charity rodeos it will be holding over the next few months to raise funds for those people devastated by the recent floods in Qld, NSW and Vic.

The rodeo timetable is as follows:
February 19 -- State Motorcycle Sports Complex, Broadford, Vic
March 5 -- Tailem Bend Motorsport Centre, SA
March 27 -- Eastern Creek Raceway, NSW

“This is motorcycling the way it used to be. The idea is to get riders together, do some fun riding and rally style games in order to generate money for the victims of floods, wherever they might be,” said the Manager of MA’s Riding Division, Rob Smith.

“Right now we really need your support for these events, especially in Victoria. Amazingly, the response has been almost non-existent.

“Sure there have been a heap of flood events recently, but people are still trying to rebuild their lives in three hard hit states. The much publicised government flood levy to rebuild infrastructure -- which is still not actually in existence yet -- has damaged fund raising for real people enormously.

"The Salvos make a difference to thousands of people and we want to help them – so we need you.

“All too often we get judged by the actions of the few when we should be judged by the actions of the many.”

If you want to ride, then call MA and register in advance. It’ll cost $50 per person for a day you’ll remember for a long time. Don’t want to ride? That’s fine, as there’s a gold coin donation at the gate.

The money will go straight to the Salvos. There’s a barbecue run by the local scouts and the chance to practice your riding while doing something worthwhile with other riders.

If your kids are seven or over, have dirt bikes, then they can ride on our dirt track, so bring them along.

You get free membership of the Riders’ division and a recreational licence for the day. Value $55. Don’t want to be a member? – no worries just tell us when you register to ride. Want to register on the day? That’s fine too, just flick us an email so we have some idea of numbers.

Riders interested in participating can pre-register by contacting MA’s Riders’ Division on the following details, or by turning up on the day:

Rob Smith – Manager Riders’ Division (03) 9684 0501 riders@ma.org.au
Michael Stafford – Training and Membership Officer (03) 9685 0509 membership@ma.org.au

You can also find the MA Riders’ Division on Facebook.
