Bugden and Jones resume normal service

Dominating New Zealand champs

January 27, 2009

Aussie pair Robbie Bugden (Suzuki) and Gareth Jones (Yamaha) continued their winning ways when the New Zealand Superbike Championship resumed in Christchurch on January 25.

Doubling as the New Zealand Motorcycle Grand Prix, the Superbike races were again an epic battle between the Aussies and local star Andrew Stroud (Suzuki).

There was nothing between the trio, with Bugden winning the opener from Stroud and Jones, but he then crashed in race two a couple of laps from home.

Jones crossed the finish line with just half a bike to spare over Stroud, and he also completed the double in the 600 Sports Production class.

The other major highlight was 16-year-old Avalon Biddle becoming only the second female to win a motorcycle GP in New Zealand, when she took her Honda RS125 to victory in the 125cc class.

Round four is at the former world Superbike circuit of Manfeild on February 14-15.
