Erik Buell returns in electric space
Electric bike and motorbike to be sold under the Fuell labelThe founder of Buell motorcycles has teamed with the creator of the Formula E racecars to develop electric two-wheelers for “city journeys that require a personal vehicle to cover distances greater than three miles”.
Known as Fuell, the company was formed after a chat between Erik Buell and the founder of Spark Racing Technology, Frederic Vasseur. The pair found shared interest in creating an urban mobility solution for the city that didn’t detract from the pleasure of urban riding.
The Fluid electric bike will launch later this year with a range of up to 200km courtesy of a pair of removable batteries with a capacity of 1Mwh and a motor with 100Nm of torque. It will be sold in two forms: as a “pedelec” with a maximum speed of 30km/h, and an “S pedelec” with a top speed of 45km/h.
It will be joined by the Flow electric motorbike in 2021. The Flow will be sold in two guises -- 11kW (equivalent to 125cc) and 35kW -- and will include an integrated 50-litre storage area, a motor mounted in the rear wheel and a dashboard that integrates with smartphones.
Fuell hasn’t mentioned specifics but says its products will be upgradable in terms of the motors, batteries and chargers. The company is projecting a price of around $A4700 for the Fluid and $A16,000 for the Flow.
