The thrills, spills and emotion of the British Superbike Championship will be brought to life on the big screen next month, when the next installment of the I, Superbiker series of documentaries is screened at selected Australian cinemas from May 23.
Written, directed and produced by Mark Sloper and narrated by legendary F1 commentator Murray Walker, I, Superbiker: The Day of Reckoning provides a behind-the-scenes insight into the lives of British Superbike racers heading into the final chapter of the 2012 season – an historic tussle that saw six riders battling for top honours in a dice that went right down to the line.
In addition to capturing the on-track action, the film also details the drama as seen through the eyes of the racers’ wives, girlfriends, teammates and team managers.
While documenting a single season finale, Sloper says the film’s themes will never age. “I wanted to capture the emotion and passion of motorcycle racing and the drama of the new showdown format,” he said. “This is a classic motorcycle racing film set in the 2012 season but a timeless story that will stay fresh for years to come,” he added.
“I also wanted it to appeal to people outside the motorcycle industry and the fan-base; I truly believe it will change outsiders’ perceptions of motorcycling,” he said.
British Superbike Champion Tommy Hill was full of praise for the film. “British Superbikes is motorcycle racing at its very best and this film shows that brilliantly,” he said. “It’s amazing to see BSB on the cinema screen. It’s a massive sport with a great following – now hopefully people who don’t know it that well can see what an incredible event it is,” he added.
I, Superbiker: The Day of Reckoning will be screened as a special cinema event for four days spanning May 23 to 26 at selected Hoyts cinemas and for one day at selected Greater Union/Event cinemas on May 23. For more information visit www.hoyts.com.au or www.eventcinemas.com.au
