Australian Bryan Staring has been signed as the CRT rider for the Gresini MotoGP team in 2013.
The 25-year-old has most recently contested the FIM Superstock 1000 Championship, taking wins at Aragón, Brno and Portimao in 2012 en route to third in the championship. He has also won three Australian championships in the 125GP, Superbike and Supersport classes. Staring will ride the Gresini team’s FTR-Honda machine in 2013, alongside Spaniard Alvaro Bautista.
“Racing in the MotoGP class has always seemed a very remote, practically unattainable. Now that I have a real chance to race in this championship with Go & Fun Honda Gresini, it’s almost unbelievable -- a dream come true,” said Staring.
“It’s the greatest opportunity of my career and I will be giving it my best. I know I still have a lot to learn and I will put in all the effort it requires. I have to thank Fausto Gresini and the team sponsors who have given me this opportunity. I cannot imagine the excitement when I first get on the bike.”
After winning the 2010 Australian superbike title, Staring has spent the last two years in the FIM Superstock 1000 Championship, and was destined to make it a third year in 2013 before the MotoGP deal presented itself.
"The arrival of Bryan Staring will complete the Team Go & Fun Honda Gresini MotoGP,” said Fausto Gresini.
“The young Australian will carry out our project in the CRT class, which we believe in, and which in the very last race of 2012 in Valencia gave us a prestigious result. Bryan… certainly has a competitive spirit and lots of important goals to reach with our FTR-Honda.
“I cannot wait to see him on track and working with our boys with whom, I believe, he will integrate very well.”
