BRP has unveiled its first utility side-by-side vehicle, the Can-Am Defender, as well as two new F3 Spyder models at a massive dealer meeting.
The company describes the Defender as a utility vehicle for farmers, fishermen, hunters and estate owners. It was designed and engineered from the ground up "to establish new standards in terms of torque and power, as well as versatility to cater to all types of outdoor activities".
BRP has leveraged its proven Rotax engine technology to create a work-focused version of the durable V-twin, with the Defender line-up to sit alongside the race-focussed Maverick range and the rec-utility Commanders. The Defender has two engines: the 50hp HD8 and the 72hp HD10, the latter which BRP claims "provides up to 20 percent more torque than the closest best-selling competitor", the Polaris XP900.
The Defender has 250mm of front and rear suspension travel, as well as 280mm of ground clearance. There's a four-mode traction system, starting from 2WD up, and the vehicles can tow up to 900kg and carry 450kg in the cargo box. Hitched up and loaded, there's still room for two passengers thanks to a 675kg payload.
Bikesales will be driving the all-new Defender this weekend at the 2016 Can-Am launch in Illinois — on over 1200 acres of trails! We'll have the full report next week, as well as details on price, availability and spec for the Defender when it goes on sale in Australia.
