Brown bowls ’em at Archerfield

The American has started the three-round campaign by getting the better off Australia's top talent

Former AMA 125cc outdoor champion, Mike Brown, took a resounding win at the first round of the 2015 InsureMyRide Australian Enduro-X Nationals at Queensland’s Archerfield Speedway on Saturday, February 7.

Brown and his Husqvarna 350 took the victory after pinching pole position in the Top 10 Shootout from CDR Yamaha’s Chris Hollis and carding 1-1-2 results in the three finals to finish ahead of Active8 Yamalube Yamaha’s Josh Green and KTM Australia’s Toby Price.

Green and Penrite Oil Honda Racing’s Peter Boyle both took a heat race victory earlier in the evening, before Brown began to stamp his authority on the night by claiming the third and final heat race victory over new KTM Australia rider Daniel Sanders.

By the time sun went down and the Top 10 shootout was at hand, Hollis looked to be in the pole position seat before Brown put in a staggering lap of over two seconds faster than the veteran Aussie to take the pole.

In the first of three finals, Sanders and his KTM 300 two-stroke grabbed the $500 for the foxhead.com.au holeshot but he couldn’t hold off a charging Brown, who took the lead by the end of the opening lap. Brown proceeded to gap the field to finish ahead of Boyle and Green at the flag. Dylan Lees managed to hold off Price for fourth.

For the second final, Sanders again fired himself to an early lead and managed to hold off Brown for half a lap longer before the American again got to the front and cleared off. But this time Sanders held on for second at the flag ahead of Green, Tom McCormack and Price in fifth.

The third and last final of the night saw Brown wreck the start to get buried in the pack going into turn one, with Aussie Dakar hero Price making the early running. It would be a lead he would not relinquish despite intense pressure from Brown, who took second place in the final and the overall win. Third in the heat was Green from Sanders and Mitcham Harper in fifth.

That gave Brown the overall win from Green and Price, with Sanders and McCormack rounding out the top five.

In the women’s class, Kristie McKinnon showed her class to take a 10-sec victory over Tayla Jones and Jessica Gardiner. Ruben Chadwick took the spoils in the Expert category, Adrian Harry took out the Veteran’s class, James Boyle the Clubman and Fraser Higlett came up trumps in the junior class.

Round two of the 2015 InsureMyRide Enduro-X Nationals will head to Eastern Creek Dragway (NSW) on February 28.
