Brough Superior reveals limited edition Lawrence of Arabia model

A new Brough Superior model will celebrate the brand's long association with T.E. Lawrence

Historic British brand Brough Superior has unveiled a new special edition model paying tribute to famed war hero and writer, T.E. Lawrence.

Lawrence, better known in popular culture as Lawrence of Arabia, was renowned for his efforts in the Arab Revolt and the Sinai and Palestine Campaign, as well as the resulting novel, Seven Pillars of Wisdom.

He was also known for his love of motorcycles, particularly Brough Superiors. He died in 1935 when he crashed his beloved Brough Superior SS100 in Dorset, UK.

The Brough Superior Lawrence takes inspiration from the SS100, but adds modern design and technology. The bike is powered by 997cc water cooled V-twin four stroke that puts out 102hp at 9600rpm and 87Nm at 7300rpm.

The bike also features electronic fuel injection, a six-speed gearbox, 17l fuel tank and other premium components. It weighs in at 200kg.

Only 188 examples will be released worldwide – a nod to the writer’s year of birth, 1888. The bike is expected to cost £52,000 (roughly $93,500AUD), but it is unclear how many units will make their way to Australia.

Brough Superior originally operated from 1919 to 1940, and the approximate 3048 motorcycles that were produced in that time were generally associated with prestige and luxury. The company was dubbed the ‘Rolls Royce of Motorcycles.’

A vintage motorcycle enthusiast named Mark Upham resurrected the Brough Superior name in 2008 with the help of French designer Thierry Henriette. The new company has since produced a number of new models including a collaboration with Aston Martin called the AMB 001.

The brand recently made its return to the Australian and New Zealand market, with Brisbane’s Fred Drake operating as the official importer for the brand.
