Brookes begins WorldSBK journey

The Aussie climbed aboard his BMW S 1000 RR for the first time at Jerez, and apart from a small electrical problem it was a fuss-free outing

Australian's big new hope in the Superbike World Championship, Josh Brookes, has finally cut his first laps on the BMW S 1000 RR he'll race in 2016.

The reigning British superbike champion joined a number of other championship contenders at Jerez, and reported on a social media channel that he completed 38 laps of the Spanish circuit before lunch, but was then nobbled by an electrical problem in the afternoon.

Former WorldSBK champion Tom Sykes (Kawasaki) was the fastest on day one of the two-day test, ahead of Chaz Davies (Ducati), world champion Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki), Nicky Hayden (Honda) and Alex Lowes (Yamaha).

The fastest rider in world supersport was reigning champion Kenan Sofuoglu (Kawasaki), just ahead of his new teammate, former Moto2 rider Randy Krummenacher.

The opening round of WorldSBK and WorldSSP will be held at Phillip Island from February 26-28. To buy tickets, click here.
