The clock is counting down to the 2017 Shannons Insurance Broadford Bike Bonanza, which will be held at the Victorian State Motorcycle Complex in Broadford, just north of Melbourne, from April 14-16.
The event, now in its ninth year, has become a magnet for anyone with a passion for the motorcycles of yesteryear, both road and race, off-road and tarmac, two wheels or three.
The annual Easter event adopts a different theme each year, with the 2017 instalment featuring a celebration of all things Ducati and a homage to the Romsey grass track days.
A trio of rare Ducatis will be on display, including a 900SS that competed in 1977 Castrol 6-Hour, a factory NCR 860 ridden in the 1978 Isle of Man TT, and a 1098 that campaigned in the Superbike World Championship.
Last year over 3500 people attended the Bonanza, which organisers now bill as one of the premier classic motorcycle events in the world. Participants can take their own classic bike for a friendly gallop, or simply catch up with mates and check out the smorgasbord of much-loved hardware on offer.
Gates are open from 7.30am on the Friday, with a Ducati-only demonstration held on the road race circuit from 1.00pm to 4.00pm later that day. Entry for Ducati owners on track for Friday is $25 if they are already signed up for the weekend; otherwise it’s $55 for the Friday only (including riding on track).
The remainder of the tracks will be running on Saturday and Sunday from 9.00am to 6.00pm.
Other highlights will include:
The Shannons Insurance Broadford Bike Bonanza Dinner
Former Grand Prix racer Kevin Magee will host the SIBBB dinner on Saturday night, guests including the 'three-time' world champions: Jason Crump in speedway and Troy Bayliss in world superbike.
There will be a Q&A session, old race stories will be swapped on stage and a silent auction will be conducted (the main prize including ‘Hot Laps’ with Australian motor legend Jim Richards in his Porsche at Sandown Raceway)
The dinner is $40 per person with tickets available at the event.
