Brits drop microchip plan

Plan too costly

British road authorities have ditched plans to fit the national motorcycle fleet with electronic registration chips that could be read remotely by hand-held or fixed roadside sensors.

The DVLA in the UK has concluded that the plan would cost over 100 million pounds (Au$217 million) and would not be cost-effective.

The proposal was intended to nab people riding bikes without paid-up registration.
