The CEO and founder of Tasmanian-headquartered motorcycle business Braap has released an open letter, touching on his recent charges related to 'rebirthing' motorcycles as well as the future for his 10-year-old company.
The letter from Brad Smith reads as follows:
Smith and Wilkin will next face Sydney's Downing Centre Local Court on August 18. Both men are charged with 'four counts of fraud and deal in proceeds of crime knowingly conceal'.
The charges come after an extensive operation by New South Wales detectives following the discovery of rebirthed motorcycles in the state eight months ago. New South Wales authorities worked with counterparts in Victoria and Tasmania, along with the Australian Border Force and government officers, to assemble their case.
Detectives allege Smith and Wilkin rebirthed 85 bikes, of which 35 were sold in New South Wales.
Braaap has stores in Hobart, Launceston and Frankston, and sells a variety of road, off-road and youth models.
