Bou indomitable in Aussie world trials

The reigning No. 1 again showed why he is the grand master with a brilliant display in Australia's inaugural round of the Trial World Championship
Spanish heavyweight Toni Bou reminded everyone why he is the reigning world champion with a maximum points haul in round two of the 2012 Trial World Championship at Mt Tarrengower, near Maldon (Vic) on May 26-27.
Bou was peerless on his Montesa, finishing ahead of countrymen Adam Raga (Gas Gas) and Albert Cabestany (Sherco) on day one, before lifting his work rate even further on Sunday to run out an easy winner from Jeroni Fajardo (Beta) and Takahisa Fujinama (Montesa).
Bou now leads the 13-round championship on 77pts, 16 in front of Raga, followed by Fajardo (58).

“This was a fantastic weekend for me, not only did I win the GP, but Raga was fourth on day two, so I extended my lead in the championship to 16 points after two rounds," said Bou. "I am delighted with this -- it was a perfect weekend.

"I am also very happy because it was a great trial for the riders. It was quite difficult on Saturday as some of the sections were slippery because of the rain. On Sunday it was a little easier, but it was still an excellent race for all the riders. The fans in Australia have been amazing too. It is a long way to come here, but they certainly made up for it, each section was bustling with spectators and they were really supportive and passionate. I had a great time in Australia, it was a fantastic weekend for me personally, and it was a fantastic event.”

Saturday’s weather produced intermittent rain, but Bou still conquered the huge granite boulders of Mt Tarrengower and forfeited just 24pts, with Raga 30 behind on 54. Meanwhile, a countback saw Cabestany get the bronze medal ahead of Fujinama after both riders finished on 65pts.
Thirteen starters again greeted the starter on Sunday, with Bou leading from the outset after a near flawless lap one. He wasn’t quite as miserly the second time around, but he still only lost 10pts for his efforts, with Fajardo finishing on 19 and Fujinami 31.
In the Junior & Open International class, Alexandre Ferrer (Sherco) won both days, while his fellow Frenchman Steven Coquelin (Gas Gas) clean swept the Youth division.
The next instalment of the championship will be held in Japan on June 2-3.
