Rapidly improving 22-year-old Lawson Bopping has secured a plum seat with the powerful CDR Yamaha team to contest the 2012 Australian motocross and supercross season.
Bopping, from Braidwood in NSW, will join former world motocross No. 2 Josh Coppins at CDR following the defection of former star rider Jay Marmont to Kawasaki.
“It was pretty cool to even be considered by Craig and the CDR Rockstar team but now that the deal is done it is like a dream come true. I’m now an official member of the most successful and professional motocross team in Australia. Every kid that races wants to be a part of this team,” Bopping said.
“This is a huge opportunity and I look forward to working with Craig and the entire CDR team. It has proven to be the team that takes its riders to the next level and that is exactly the environment I’m looking for as I have set my goals pretty high for 2012.
“I have spent some time on the Yamaha YZ450F… and plan on logging some big hours over the summer period. I have never been so excited or motivated to go riding.”
Bopping joins CDR after a stunning rookie season in the Pro Open class, finishing seventh overall in the MX Nationals before a fourth in the Super X title.
The 2012 season gets underway on April 1 when the 10-round MX Nationals kicks off in Queensland.
Before that, Bopping will contest some events in New Zealand alongside Coppins, as well as reeling off plenty of testing laps in Australia.
