Partnering with a guitar amplification company seems like a strange move for a luxury motorcycle manufacturer, but BMW Motorrad doesn’t seem fazed, with the German marque inking a deal with Marshall to upgrade its sound systems.
The new long-term deal will see Marshall provide updated, high-end speaker systems for relevant BMW motorcycles, such as the BMW R 1250 RT. A press release also promises the collaboration would result in ‘new innovative products for motorcycles and music, especially in the BMW Motorrad Heritage segment.’
While the connection between the two brands isn’t immediately obvious, they share similar values and a rebellious spirt that is reflected both in music and motorcycling.
Marshall Amplification was founded in London in 1962 by Jim Marshall, and is now based in Bletchley, Milton Keynes. The brand has produced iconic guitar amplifiers which have been used by some of the most recognised musicians in history.
In recent times, the company has used its audio expertise to create a range of headphones and active speakers specifically for music lovers.
Marshall’s rock and roll spirt fits well with BMW Motorrad’s current direction, which includes the Berlin-built R 18 cruiser – a bike designed as a true rockstar of the motorcycle industry. BMW’s push into the heritage segment has given the historic brand a touch of cool-factor, which further justifies its partnership with Marshall.
The first products born from this partnership are expected to be announced on July 29, 2021.
