BMW is expected to announce later this year that it will enter world superbike racing in 2009, which means it will also be limbering up to reveal a major new model to compete in the class.
The company has an interesting choice on which way to jump, as the world competition now allows 1200cc twins to compete against 1000cc multis and the German make has both cylinder configurations in its line-up.
It has been racing the R1200 S recently, most notably at the Le Mans 24 hour (pictured), where it placed a worthy 16th on its first outing. However it would take a fairly major revamp to make it competitive against the racing might of Ducati's twins.
Similarly, it has some powerful four cylinder engines, but would need to develop a high performance litre version, if that's the way it chose to go.
Bimm has become increasingly active in racing in recent years, both on the tar and off-road.
