Bikesales is now preparing for a big week on dirt and tarmac roads across the roof of Australia as we ride three models in the updated 1250 Boxer range – R 1250 GS, R 1250 GS Adventure and R 1250 RT – and also the F 850 GS Adventure.
The R 1250 GS, R 1250 GSA and R 1250 RT – as well as the R 1250 R and RS roadsters, which we’ll be riding down the track – employ the 1254cc variable-valve ‘ShiftCam’ engine for 2019 which offers a significant boost in both power and torque.
That’s an increase of 84cc over the old Boxer engine, with the 1254cc unit producing a claimed 136hp (100kW) at 7750rpm and class-leading 143Nm at 6250rpm, compared to 125hp (92KW) and 125Nm for the 1170cc version. Peak torque is now reached 250rpm lower than before.
Meanwhile, the 2019 F 850 GS Adventure gets a 15mm lower seat than the outgoing model and will differ from the standard bike with the ability to carry eight extra litres of fuel, a taller adjustable screen, a stainless steel luggage rack as well as a 6.5-inch full-colour TFT screen.
We’ve already ridden the new F 850 GS parallel twin, and now we’re looking forward to seeing how the harder-edged version performs.
