BMW’s new range if sub-500cc bikes are set to be unveiled in 2015, according to a report in British motorcycle publication MCN.
In a news story on the MCN website, BMW’s head of motorcycles, Stephan Schaller, confirmed the 2015 timeline, with the bikes to be built in conjunction with Indian manufacturer TVS
.
Attached is an image from MCN of a prototype undergoing testing. A 300cc engine is set to power the new bikes, and it’s believed that three engines will power: a naked roadster, fully faired machine and, based on a key pillar of BMW”s heritage, an adventure-styled entry.
“The small capacity bikes are still on target for us in terms of the timetable which means this time next year the bikes will be presented,” Schaller was quoted as saying by MCN. “We will keep the original timing, but maybe we have to put a little bit more resource into this to keep with the schedule. In one year’s time I think we can start talking about the new bikes. The design and engineering are done by BMW in Munich and then TVS is doing much of the work to get these bikes ready for production.”
A likely timetable for release is the Intermot show in October 2015.
The new sub-500cc BMW’s will fall under the LAMS umbrella in Australia, and the 300cc market is particularly hit with Kawasaki and Honda pushing hard, with Yamaha to join the fun as well. KTM also has its 390cc powered machines, and CFMoto will also be chiming in with a 400cc model in 2015.
