Have I lost you already? Don't worry, as it's really quite simple.
BMW Motorrad Australia has announced that it will re-introduce a single-cylinder adventure bike to its line-up later this month when the G 650 GS goes on sale.
The new bike will supersede the previous "G" 650cc manifestations - the G 650 Xcountry, Xchallenge and Xmoto machines - but will be powered by the same 652cc engine built by Loncini in China delivering 50hp at 6500rpm and 60Nm at 4800rpm.
That engine is identical in design to the Rotax unit previously supplied in the popular F 650 GS single-cylinder machine, which sold in Australia from 2000-2005.
The G 650 GS will retail for $11,990, and sit alongside the F 650 GS, F 800 GS, R 1200 GS and R 1200 GS Adventure in BMW's thrill-seeking line-up. The F 650 GS is an 800cc parallel twin and more road-orientated than the G 650 GS - and costs a lot more too.
"We see great potential for this bike in Australia, it really is a true all-rounder," BMW Motorrad General Manager, Cameron Cuthill said. "Not only does the G 650 GS provide a fantastic option for the adventure rider, it is a great option for those looking to start out or return to motorcycling.
"Like all BMW Motorrad GS models the G 650 GS provides unrivalled versatility."
The BMW G 650 GS will be equipped with the latest generation switchable anti-lock brakes as standard, and has wire wheels, heated hand grips and the choice of either low suspension or a centrestand.
Front suspension is by telescopic forks and at the rear by a box-section steel dual swingarm with a central spring. Spring preload is hydraulically adjustable via a hand-wheel, and rebound damping is also adjustable.
Front suspension travel is 170mm, with 165mm at the rear. The front wire spoke rim is 19 inches by 2.50, while the rear is a 17-inch x 3.00 item.
The BMW G 650 GS weighs 175kg dry, and 192kg fuelled and ready to ride.
It will be available with a choice of red or black bodywork.
