BMW's GS Safari heads for the hills

The 2012 BMW GS Safari will tackle the Great Dividing Range as it heads from Ballina to Bathurst, and there's also a pre-Safari course for those interested

Aussie owners of dual-purpose BMW models are in for a treat this September, when the 2012 BMW GS Safari heads for the hills of the Great Dividing Range in NSW.

Kicking off from the northern NSW town of Ballina on Sunday, September 16, participants will enjoy a factory-supported tour of some of the state's most spectacular country, before the off-road odyssey concludes in Bathurst five days later on Friday, September 21.

The route will see riders zig-zag their way down the Great Dividing Range, with daily route sheets, GPS info and route markings guiding the way.

The trails may be relatively remote, but help is never far away, either -- riders can rely on full technical backup in the event of any mechanical issues or other problems.
To help hone participants' skills, BMW will also be holding a two-day pre-Safari off-road riding training course, just prior to the Safari itself.
The General Manager of BMW Motorrad, Australia and New Zealand, Tony Sesto, said this year's event was bound to sell out. "The GS Safari is a great event and it gives an opportunity for all BMW GS riders to enjoy magnificent riding country in the company of like-minded enthusiasts," he said.
"Last year the limited places filled quickly, so I would advise riders to avoid disappoinment by registering as soon as possible," he added.
Registration for the 2012 BMW GS Safari is now open. See your nearest BMW Motorrad dealer for more information, or - to further whet your appetite for GS-themed adventure, take a look at this clip BMW has produced to celebrate over three decades of GS models...
