BMW has pulled the covers off three overhauled adventure models, with the F 900 GS, F 900 GS Adventure, and F 800 GS providing more capability and versatility than ever before.
Featuring bigger engines, more power, lighter weights, and more technology, the three dual-sport models are designed to compete in the heated middleweight adventure segment that includes the likes of the KTM 890 Adventure R, Husqvarna Norden 901 Expedition, Aprilia Tuareg 660, Ducati DesertX, Triumph Tiger 900, Yamaha Tenere 700, Honda XL750 Transalp, and the Suzuki V-Strom 800DE, just to name a few.
The headline change from the previous generation of BMW’s middleweight adventure lineup is increased engine capacity, with the new models featuring a 895cc parallel-twin engine. The F 800 GS features a detuned version of the same engine used for the F 900 models.
Both the F 900 GS and F 900 GSA models punch out a claimed 105hp (77kW) at 8500rpm and 93Nm at 6750rpm, while the F 800 GS claims figures of 87hp (65kW) at 6750rpm and 91Nm at 6750rpm.
BMW also claims that the new F 900 models provide more off-road prowess with new fully adjustable suspension, a range of “Enduro” tech features, lighter plastic fuel tanks, new bodywork, new protection parts, a lighter swingarm, enduro footrests, and hand protectors.
All three models come standard with 6.5-inch TFT displays, heated grips, two ride modes, ABS Pro, dynamic traction control, LED lighting, and all-new paint schemes. The F 900 GS also comes standard with an Akrapovic silencer, while the F 900 GSA has a 23L fuel tank.
As usual, there is a wide range of accessories and packages available including keyless ignition and Dynamic ESA, while the GSA is also compatible with the Ride Pro package that includes a range of extra features and functions.
Pricing for all three models is yet to be announced as is an estimate arrival, however BMW Motorrad Australia is already taking expressions of interest on its website.
