BMW Motorrad has unveiled a new concept bike that utilises a beefed-up version of the air-oil cooled “Bix Boxer” flat twin engine that debuted in the R 18 crusier.
Dubbed the BMW R20, the new machine is a roadster that looks like a power cruiser crossed with a café racer and stands out with its “hotter than pink” fuel tank.
BMW used the annual Concorso d’Eleganza Ville d’Este event on the shores of Lake Como to present the new machine, with Head of BMW, Markus Flasch calling the concept “a mechanical masterpiece”.
The engine is now 2000cc and features new cylinder head covers, a new belt cover, and a new oil cooler.
Holding everything together is a black double-loop main frame made of chromoly steel tubes. There is also a 17-inch black disc wheel at the rear and a 17-inch spoked wheel at the front.
A unique rear suspension design uses a chromoly swingarm combined with an aluminium Paralever strut, while the Ohlins Blackline components at the front and rear are fully adjustable.
The BMW R20 is just a concept for now, but BMW did use the same event in 2019 to reveal the R18 concept, which eventually resulted in the R 18 crusier. So, watch this space.
