BMW has increased its F-series range of 800cc machines to five with the unveiling of the 800 R at EICMA 2008 in Milan.
The F 800 R, which has taken many of its design hues from the big K 1300 R, weighs in at a claimed 182kg dry, and the in-line twin produces 87ps at 8000rpm and 86Nm at 6000rpm - figures on par with its four siblings (F 800 ST, F 800 S, F 650 GS and F 800 GS).
However, the R differs from its predecessors thanks to a new a throttle valve kinematic system for more low-speed punch, and shorter ratios from fourth to sixth gear.
There is a double-sided swingarm, and the brakes are Brembo. ABS will be an option.
Expect to see the F 800 R on sale in late 2009 or early 2010.
