Here is what the factory had to say about the bike: Priced from $29,500, the new K 1200 GT combines maximum agility and significantly increased performance with ideal riding ergonomics designed for the longest journeys.
BMW Motorrad has carried over the running gear and engine technology of the K 1200 S and K 1200 R models.
This includes innovative suspension systems - BMW Duolever at the front and EVO-Paralever at the rear.
The K 1200 GT is powered by the four-cylinder engine that made its debut in the 123kW K 1200 S. It develops a maximum output of 112kW in its GT specification, which the factory says makes the 1157cc tourer the most powerful machine in its segment by some margin.
The new GT is even 17 per cent more powerful than its predecessor, with an increase in torque of 11 per cent.
This power hike hasn't come at the expense of fuel economy though, as the new GT claims a higher theoretical cruising range (up by 17 per cent). At the same time, the new model is six per cent lighter, but is also able to carry a higher payload (up by 19 per cent).
The bike offers an electrically adjustable windscreen, adjustable rider's seat and handlebars, as well as panniers included as standard.
Apart from a fully controlled three-way catalytic converter, the high performance EVO brake system with semi-integral ABS brakes and an electronic immobiliser are among the features offered as standard equipment.
The new K 1200 GT is available in three standard colours that can be combined with two contrasting colours on the side covers and the seat. As usual, BMW Motorrad also offers a wide range of optional extras and special equipment, including Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA), an on-board computer, Xenon headlight, cruise control, and the new Motorrad Navigator III.
BMW Motorrad Australia will offer three models at launch: K 1200 GT: Standard equipment: Heated grips and on-board computer and cruise control, $29,500. K 1200 GT Komfort: Standard equipment: Heated grips, on-board computer, seat heating, ESA and cruise control, $30,750.
K 1200 GT SE: Standard equipment: Xenon headlight, heated grips, on-board computer, seat heating, cruise control, and ESA, $31,250.
