BMW has added another member to the R 18 cruiser family, with the latest entry bringing a touch of custom bagger style to the line-up.
The all-new BMW R 18 Roctane builds on the standard R 18 platform by adding two 27L hard cases, heated grips, high handlebars, and a blacked-out engine as standard. The Roctane also has altered geometry for better straight-light stability as well as an instrument cluster that is built into the LED headlight housing.
Powered by the huge 1802cc “Big Boxer” twin-cylinder engine, the R 18 Roctane joins the R 18, R 18 Classic, R 18 B, and R 18 Continental in BMW’s cruiser range.
BMW launched the R 18 cruiser in early 2021 and it has since become a platform for custom bike builders to create their own unique spin on the model. In January 2022, a pair of custom R 18 models were shown off at the Verona Motor Bike Expo in Italy, while Dirk Oehlerking (Kingston Custom), Roland Sands, and Bernard Naumann (Blechmann) have also built unique R 18 creations.
More recently, custom icon Fred Kodlin debuted the eye-popping R 18 Heavy Duty at Daytona Bike Week in Florida. The stunning machine is a complete reworking of the R 18 platform, complete with a custom paintjob by tattoo artist Marcel Sinnwell.
