BMW Motorrad posts record July

A best ever result for July, with sales 8.5 per cent above the same period in 2013. The company is now well on track for a record year

BMW Motorrad has just posted its best ever July sales figure, with 11,661 motorcycles and maxi scooters sold compared to 11,241 in 2013 – a 3.7 per cent  improvement.

As of July 2014, worldwide sales likewise have reached a new all-time high at 82,639 units, an increase of 8.5 per cent on 2014 (76,128 units).

Germany continues to be the strongest single BMW Motorrad market with 14,016 vehicles sold (previous year: 13,658 units) and a share of 17 per cent in the total sales volume. The second largest market is the USA with sales of 10,158 vehicles (previous year: 9402 units) and a 12.3 per cent volume share. These are followed in third and fourth positions by the European markets of Italy and France, with 8470 and 7601 motorcycles and maxi scooters sold respectively.

In Australia, BMW Motorrad grew by a staggering 38.8 per cent in the first six months of 2014, with 1453 units sold – and looking forward to a huge second half thanks to bikes like the S 1000 R and R nine T.

Heiner Faust, BMW Motorrad Head of Sales and Marketing, said: “The success of the first seven months is based on the ongoing healthy demand for our motorcycles and maxi scooters and shows just how popular our current model range is among customers.”

Globally, the R 1200 GS and R 1200 GS Adventure bikes continue to be the most favoured by customers.
