BMW has pulled the covers of the new 2024 M 1000 XR, which is the latest model to join the Munich firm’s high-performance M range.
Based on the S 1000 XR, which has been updated for 2024, the new M 1000 XR offers punters a faster, lighter, and more high-tech adventure sport option. BMW calls the bike a “long-distance sportsbike” and it is designed with both touring and racing in mind.
The M 1000 XR joins the M 1000 RR superbike and the M 1000 R naked bike in BMW's exclusive M range. The M 1000 R was recently announced as a 2023 bikesales Bike of the Year finalist.
Local pricing is yet to be announced, but the 2023 S 1000 XR had a starting price tag of $30,050 ride away, so expect a big premium for the M 1000 XR version.
Powered by the S RR-derived four-cylinder engine, the M 1000 XR is capable of 201hp at 12,750rpm, which is 31hp more than the latest S 1000 XR. Maximum torque is listed at 113Nm at 11,000rpm.
The M 1000 XR also features bespoke gear ratios, M winglets and wind deflectors, state-of-the-art electronic suspension, high-end M brakes, an M endurance chain, and a long list of M-specific components and styling details.
In addition, the M 1000 XR has a full list of electronic rider aids including brake slide assist, dynamic traction control, wheelie control, multiple throttle maps and ride modes, launch control, a pit lane limiter, hill hold, a quickshifter, and a 6.5-inch TFT display. All of this is improved by a six-axis IMU.
And wait – there’s more. The M 1000 XR also benefits from a lightweight M battery, adaptive lighting, keyless ignition, electronic cruise control, heated grips, USB charging port, and an adjustable steering damper.
Customers can also add the M Competition package, which adds M carbon wheels, a GPS laptrigger function, more protection parts, and an adjustable footrest system. It also makes the bike 3kg lighter.
More information on pricing and availability is expected in the coming weeks.
