BMW K1600 GT hits the web

BMW has launched a new microsite for its upcoming K1600 GT big bore tourer, which is expected to make its debut very soon, possibly at EICMA 2010 in early November.

Powered by an inline six-cylinder engine displacing an impressive 1649 cubic centimentres, the BMW K1600 GT minisite backs up much of the information we already knew.

Power from the engine will be 160hp (118kW) at 7500rpm and a torque peak of 175Nm will hit the skids at 5000rpm.

Partially integrated ABS is to be a standard feature as will items such as adaptive headlights, an iPod USB and Bluetooth enabled audio system, traction control, electronic suspension adjustment, heated hand grips and seat, cruise control and an on-board computer with satellite navigation system.

Expected to take motorcycle touring to a high-tech new level, the 2011 BMW K1600 GT is shaping up very nicely.

Unfortunately the exciting new official website is a bit lacklustre, playing a similar tune to that seen by the Triumph Tiger 800's website. The information is there, but what about the motorcycle?

Our excitement was building as we found a couple of videos on the K1600 GT's website, with titles reading 'Supremacy and dynamic performance in their purest form. This is the new K 1600 GT'. Cool, sounds good. We click the "See it now" button.

The video starts: more people gather round the computer screen in anticipation. Beautiful vistas make us all feel happy (being Cake Friday also helps), crisp blue rivers and verdant green forests filmed from helicopters flash past. Hot air ballons, boats, yachts and even cars are shown.

Then the video ends. There's no sign of the K1600 GT, despite the "See it now" claim.

We can see a pattern forming here, and we'll just have to wait until the next stage of the information drip-feed continues.
