BMW F 800 GS Adventure breaks cover

BMW has revealed its new F 800 GS Adventure, the model benefitting from a variety of upgrades for better off-road and long-haul touring potential

BMW Motorrad has released details of its new F 800 GS Adventure – the harder-edged, more off-road and long-haul focused iteration of the standard F 800 GS.

Powered by the same liquid-cooled and fuel-injected 798cc parallel-twin as the standard bike, with unchanged outputs of 63kW (85hp) at 7500rpm and 83Nm at 5750rpm, the F 800 GS Adventure also shares the same tubular-steel spaceframe, but it features a number of important updates to enhance its off-road and touring abilities.

To that end, headlining the changes is a 24-litre long-range tank, which BMW says extends the new model’s range by roughly 120km. A taller screen provides additional comfort over long distances, while handguards and enduro-style footpegs offer additional protection and control.

The model has also been enhanced by a reinforced (and adjustable) brake pedal, a strengthened rear subframe, an engine protection bar and a new, more comfortable bench seat. Finally, the bike features “robust and masculine” new bodywork.

While the bike is equipped with ABS as standard, Automatic Stability Control (ASC) and Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA) are available as factory-fitted extras or special accessories. An Enduro mode is also available as an option, increasing the slip threshold of both the ABS and ASC systems when off-road for "a more dynamic" riding experience.

The first 1000 examples will be sold in an exclusive ‘Launch Edition’ format, with a ‘Sandrover’ matt paint scheme and in a choice of three equipment packages: Comfort (with onboard computer, heated grips and centrestand), Enduro (ASC plus Enduro mode) and Special (aluminium case set, topbox holder and GPS).

While pricing is yet to be set for the F 800 GS Adventure, BMW Motorrad Australia has announced the new model will be reaching our shores in August 2013. Visit www.bmwmotorrad.com.au for more information.
