BMW has unveiled its latest hotshot suspension innovation, Dynamic Damping Control (DDC) -- an evolution of the company’s ESA II with the goal of “achieving even greater stability and safety in riding response”.
DDC is a semi-active suspension system which reacts automatically to inputs like braking, accelerating and cornering, and then analyses sensors to set the correct level of damping best suited to the situation.
The system is lined to traction control (DTC) and ABS, and the adjustments to damping depend on whether the springs are compressing or rebounding, with each process being controlled separately. DDC also features variable spring rates.
According to BMW, DDC provides a considerable boost to “active riding safety, operating comfort, and – not least of all – riding fun”.
DDC will be introduced to the first BMW Motorrad motorcycles in the near future.
